Chasing the aussie model mate, I'm told there's a few differences between the bcd's and the ubcd's.

Check the frequency coverage of the US model mate. If you don't need the small parts of the bands that it restricts (some upper 800mhz and some low band VHF from memory) then I would look at the US XT model over the Aussie T model.

The XT has far larger trunk group allowances, better memory allocation and a number of other benefits as opposed to the T model. You obviously won't be able to get a new T model either, Aussie or US, as they were replaced by the XT. Unfortunately the XT was never released in an Aus/etc versions (signified by the U at the beginning).

If you do want a US XT get it from the US. You will get it cheaper than that Aussie eBay ad, even with postage.

Similar, but not the same. Aside from the minor frequency differences and service searches, the main benefits of the XT are far more available channels (up to 25000 from 6000), doubling of the talkgroups per system (up to 500 from 250 - a big benefit) and the system structure in the XT is far more efficient (another big benefit).

If you can get them from a local importer for less than $550 then go for it. But consider that you can buy them from the US, including shipping to Aus, for around that price (even with the low exchange rate).

Thanks for the replys guys. I'm mainly after fire and police in qld and maybe nsw and other states if I decide to go road tripping. It should work for analogue and p25 digital channels yeah?

Another random question.

I currently have a ubc355xlt, would it cover all the frequencies I'm looking at monitoring anyway? With the analogue and p25 digital? If it does I might not worry about upgrading and just make a nicer mount for it in the car.
