Re: 27mhz base antenna
Why not make one ? an all metal 1/2 wave dipole can be made in an afternoon, and costs less than $20 to make. And it's only 17.5 foot long tip to tip.troll5 wrote:what would be a good base antenna to buy for use on 27mhz

PEEEE ----EEEEEWWWWWW a 5/8 th Vertical......i hope you got the radial kit for it at the same time, otherwise you have a nice LONG bit of rust free alloy tube that wont hear dick......
But if you bought the REQUIRED radial kit too, you should be able to hear a mouse fart in Moscow.....if you mount it at the right height and in the right way. Get it at least 60 feet in the air, and use a decent feedline, such as RG-8 or 450 Ohm Twinlead, into a 4:1 Balun then a stepdown balun to 50 Ohm.
The 5/8th Groundplane is a nice stick if set up right, but a dog if it isn't.

GeneralZap, there worth around $240. Money well spent with swr 1:1 on 27.355. Would recommend them highly.
