Hi,
there should be other posts around on digital scaning and encryption.

There is no scanner (Yet) that will decode digital encryption as used by the QPS.

There are scanners that will allow you to listen to digital transmissions.

Dont think it will ever happen bud, not legally anyway if someone did happen to get through the encryption it is illegal.

Hi,
ACMA has no policy in place to decode ecryption as iilegal. It is what you do with the information once you have it that will get you.

The encryption was put in place to stop listening, who knows what the future will bring.

Motorola would have no intrest in releasing a digital scanner that could decode encryption, if they did those companies would no longer pay the big $$ for the encryption.

it will come eventually, possibly out of china or else where, someone will be looking it - one day.

Dosn't QPS have that key that changes every how many minutes or whatever it is, so if the technology is brought out it will be way advanced.

But imagine the $$$ Motorola would bring in if they did release a scanner that could do it. There would be people that would pay thousands. It will never happen in my opinion. But you never know, if you know the right people. Its possible. 8) Trust me.

People/Uni Students in the states have created devives that can crack the key and track it even when it changes. (Not connected to a scanner of course)
Cheers

Second that.

They have that ability so when/if a radio goes missing or gets stolen, the radio is rendered useless until it's been modified to match the same key (if thats what you call it)

During APEC, a radio got stolen and within minutes they changed it so the stolen radio was useless.

Encrypted signals can be decoded.

NSA have the technology.

NSA stands for NO SUCH ADDRESS

We may be able to buy receivers that can crack encryption one day in the future. A long way away yet :(

I suspect you are correct.

I have been doing some research into the ap25 digital and it is interesting to see how it works, how the security options have been developed and what given some more time they will be able to do with the radios.

I have also noticed the white ticket lice at the train stations are using a new looking motorolla handy, I have been unable to identify a model but is dose not look like an XTS but may be on the BCC network, the interesting thing I did notice was it inability to work form the platfrom at Brunswick stations to the point where they resorted to the good old mobile phone.

Interesting. I believe Motorola MTP850s are TETRA, don't know about MPT850s.

Technically speaking, there is no such thing as the "BCC network".
The Brisbane City Council is just a major client on Motorola's Zeon Digital Network (which is TETRA), and Motorola probably uses that fact to entice other Government departments to also sign-up to the network.

this is true BCC are just a client so is Translink for that matter which are the people who tell Transit Officers what to do now in an agreement with QR.

Currently using Tetra.
QUT
Chubb Security
BCC Buses
Cityworks
Transit Guards
Riverstage (only use it sometimes - still preform there hyt's)

I have personally used the MPT850's in my job on some Event sites for there bump in and bump out's they aren't all that bad coverage in some spots is bad however. and the fact that someone can locate you with a application for some departments is kinda creepy
