FSK decoder for PDW

Post by Scannersplitterguy »

NO LONGER AVAILABLE!

Hi all,
Please take a look at my latest creation.
Cost is $49. Postage within Australia is $9.

PM me if you need to know more.

This is a 2-level FSK decoder.
It plugs into your PC's 9-pin serial port (COM 1) and a suitable receiver via 3.5mm mono plug.
It will only run under Windows XP. You will also need PDW software (available free on the net or I can supply).

I can supply a decoder to connect to a headphone/speaker output OR via a discriminator tap on your scanner/receiver.
Please specify which version you want.
The two versions look identical, a couple of components are changed internally.

These units are built and tested by myself (a radio/electronics tech with 30 years experience).
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Is there any difference between using one of these and the sterio/mono ? cables ? or is it just the other way of doing it ?

The data is generally completely error-free when you use a decoder.
Using the soundcard with either a mono or stereo cable works well, but can be tricky to set up. And, it ties your soundcard up too.

Shame there is no way you couldn't fit inline with a USB connection or something similar as some computers (especially laptops) nowdays don't have a serial connection

looks great as I would like to free up the soundcard however I can't find anything suitable for my laptops

No, it's not designed for USB.
I don't think a USB to Serial adaptor works either, unfortunately.

Probably is this your solution;

RS-232 Interface and atleast PDW version 3.0, to make it work.

Hi all,
I am no longer building these decoders. Most PC's don't have a serial port anymore, plus I simply don't have the time these days.
