NEWS- Bundaberg: Explosions in or near a motor wreckers

Post by gasgrassorarse »

Was scanning a short while ago and heard multiple radio traffic (police and fire) about multiple explosions at or near a motor wreckers.

Still currently happening.

Not much information on either Firecom or QPS freq's, just brief comms in relation to emergent situation declared (7 minutes ago) and comms in relation to staff or owner's attending with keys and information about site layout, potential hazards etc etc.

Would that Bundaberg be in Region 3?

No. Region 3 is South Western Region (West of Brisbane).

Bundaberg is in Region 4 (North Coast Region).

seems the explosions were tyres and fuel tanks.

THE man who reported a huge fire in a car wrecker's yard in East Bundaberg says he heard two explosions about 30 seconds apart before it started.

Jason Baker, who lives across the road from the Fixit Auto Wreckers yard, said the explosions happened about 10.55pm.

Mr Baker said he and his wife, Michelle, were watching TV in their bedroom when he heard the explosions.

"It sounded like a gun being fired," he said.

"I went out and headed down the road.

"I saw smoke, then huge flames came shooting over the wall."

Mr Baker said the burning car tyres and exploding fuel tanks made the fire noisy.

He said he had no idea how it started.

"It's a bit strange," he said.

"Fires don't just start on their own in the back of a car yard."

Mr Baker said he banged on the door of a man who lives upstairs in a unit above the Fixit office.

"He didn't know it was happening," he said.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Bundaberg acting station officer Jonathon Blackley said seven crews went to the fire.

"We had five urban crews and two rural crews there," he said.

"That's a big fire for Bundaberg.

"We would have had about 20 firefighters there."

Mr Blackley said cars and other equipment were on fire in the wrecker's yard when fire crews arrived.

He said the call came in just before 11pm on Saturday, and the last truck left the scene after 5am yesterday.

"That's a good six hours," he said.

Mr Blackley said fire investigators started probing the cause of the fire as soon as it became light enough to work.
