909 Khz

Post by turbine_prop »

Hi all.

I know it's not quiet SW but whilst spinning the dial tonight on the Icom IC718 I received a very strong music station on 909 Khz it was just continuous music with no talking I checked the ACMA data base but there is no station listed for 909 Khz.

I checked to make sure that it was not another station bleeding through from either side

Any clues, maybe a pirate station ?.

Thanks in advance

Might be due to the conditions...

Conditions? if it was because of that you can't run two stations on one frequency

Might be an overseas station bleeding thru on the conditions with the atmosphere.
Is the station still active?

909 Is the BBC in the UK, they transmit at 200kw, they also use 693khz 3AW in melbourne if there was no 3AW in melbourne the BBC will bleed into a radio in melbourne.
It can be NHK 2 In japan too on my panasonic RX-EX1 i just got faint footy commentary from a station a few khz up the band.

Thanks to everyone who replied I'm north east Melb using an Icom IC708 connected to an CP6 mounted 40Ft off the ground 102M's above sea level.

I've decided to sit down over this weekend considering that conditions were pretty good and see what I could pick up and identify.

The next job on the list is to take an initial Loop antenna then a more permanent one that can be mounted on a rotator.

I have had the pleasure of purchasing a P/K/ loop antenna and mounting it for a client that lives in Western Victoria and needed to be able to receive 963 3AW I had the loop specially built for them for that frequency I cannot believe the huge difference that these antennas make they are absolutely incredible.

My log consists of

540 7SD Scottsdale Tas

558 7BU Burnie Tas

801 5RN Renmark S.A.

882 3YB Warranmbool Vic

909 ???? ( i'm getting Music again tonight ) 23:50 AEST

981 3HA Hamilton Vic

963 2RG Griffith Nsw ( i GET THIS ALL THE TIME )

1044 5CS Spencer Gulf S.A.

1053 2CA Canberra ACT

1089 3WM Horsham Vic

1098 4LG Roma Qld

1143 2HD Newcastle Nsw

1152 2WG Wagga Nsw

1251 2DU Dubbo Nsw

1323 5DN Adelaide S.A.

1350 2LF Young Nsw

1404 2PK Parkes Nsw

1476 4ZR Roma Qld

1566 3NE Wangaratta Vic

All these stations were very good ranging between S5 and S30 on the dial

Last year whilst doing a similar exercise out of the blue was 4BK I sent them a reception report and they sent me back a QSL card I was stocked :-)
