AVCG Or Aust Vol Coast Guard

Post by melbourneradio »

While cleaning out the rubbish in the shed i cam across the manual i had when i was with the coast guard , it has some information in there i had forgotten such as codes call signs etc , this of course is for Vic , but could be across the board aside form the location call's

Location Call Signs

so every Vessel has a Call this is the call we here , like Say GG01 for frankston ,
then every base or headquarters as a call , this is designated by the H after the number that is in the 900 series , (i wonder were they stole that from ) this come down to say frankston this is known as VF01 so frankston headquarters would be known as 901H
this is on domestic of course if it is on marine freq it would remain coast guard frankston

Cars and trucks that tow the vessels around are given the 400 series - so the truck from frankston would be given the designation 401 on domestic these are supposed to have marine fitted (this is in the marine act although i have seen most of the trucks have marine even if only for listening )

SAR Controllers are prefixed "control 123 "

Coast guard melboune is not always operating from sandringham , there are a number of "mirror " sites around the bay , don not give your location unless asked

Further Call Sigh allocations are ,

CG 01-50 - Primary Response Vessels
CG 51-199 - Private Vessels , Vehicles - SAR
CG 200 -250 - Flotilla Secondary Response Vessels
CG 251- 299 - Private Vessels - Vehicles NON SAR
CG 300-350 - Flotilla Third Response Vessels

CG 800 -850- Flotilla
CG 851 - 899 - Not allocated

there are a number of call signs scattered for individuals as well i do have them here but wont list them for privacy and they may also be out of date
