A SUSPICIOUS package at Brisbane's Greenslopes and a suspicious device at Hervey Bay have turned out to be false alarms.

The first was a hoax device found earlier today in a vacant house in Kent St, Urangan, at Hervey Bay.

The package was discovered by workmen who called police just after midday and the street was closed down.

Both firefighters and the Explosives Ordnance Response Team were called but police subsequently established the device had no ignition source and declared the area safe.

The second occurred this evening at 5.15pm when police received a call after a suspicious package was found under a car at Annerley Soccer Club.

Police, fire crews and the response team remained at the scene for hours until 9.50pm when it was discovered the package was actually a gift to the car owner.

Streets were closed in the area during this time and five to six homes were evacuated.

A police spokesman said it is unknown whether the car owner was expecting a gift, which turned out to be car accessories.

I would imagine they would fly them up as a drive from brisbane to hervey bay is a good couple of hours

On the note of false alarms we had a false alarm at yeronga station last night it just was someone left it behind by mistake

lets just say the passenger left his bag behind. when he realized his mistake he attempted to return to the station to find that the area was cordoned off.
