Helidon
Hey guys
I've been away since boxing day covering the QLD floods in Warrick, Toowoomba, Chinchilla, Warra, Dalby, St George and the Lockyer Valley
I just thought i'd share with you the story that has affected me the most about a couple in Helidon who had to climb on the roof of their dream home to escape the inland tsunami tearing down from Toowoomba
This ran on 7's rolling coverage during the day

I flew over ipswich/Gatton/grantham/helicon/withcott and the devastation from the air was intense....
Thanks for sharing the video - viewed it on tv but now I will save it for my daughter to view when she grows up
All the best to everyone....

Murphys creek was opened to residents today for the first time and we went in to assist clean up. 20 rural fire trucks got deployed from all over south east region.
The place is an absolute mess. Houses flattened, cars in trees, boats in half. Didnt get many photos a) too busy helping out b) out of respect to the locals.
My heart goes out to them as they've pretty much lost everything.

Too right Mitch. Very sad indeed. A friend of mine from Grantham started to make arrangements to go to her property and assess the damage, and a friend of hers who has been helping with the clean up said, "No. I'm not letting you. You shouldn't see this. You can't see this."
Rohan... Interesting...

Something else interesting.
I heard on Wednesday that there are more than 60 bodies in the Toowoomba hospital. Any truth in that?

No that is incorrect, the Toowoomba morgue has set up space for 50 bodies just in case they find a large amount if people deceased in the Lockyer Valley but the rumor that there has already been that many people found is completely falseSteveO wrote:Something else interesting.

This is a story that aired on The Today Show on Channel Nine this morning:

It is great to see a message of hope for once.
Nury works in our office and we've all been pitching in to help with Grantham Flood Support.

I was in Grantham yesterday with Nury and the channel nine crew filming this. Was really inspirational.

Re: Helidon
Yeah I drove through center of Gratham last week, we had a police escort and were not allowed to film anything until we got to the railway bridge on the other side of town. Reminded me of the pictures from the boxing day Tsunami.. One of the images that will stick with me was we saw two rural fire trucks halfway up the main road that had been completely swamped, Apparently one had a rural firey and his family in them and they didn't make it out
