Trunkview trubbles

Post by rredbeak »

ok,bought the usb/rs232 cable from jaycar todat as my comp has no comm port.
unzipped trunkview as per instructions and added the .xml file i was sent from the forum.

"Cannot connect to scanner".or cannot connect to comm 3 [scanner location]

ok,delete the .xml file i just added.

Trunkview accepts the scanner but the program is bare [nothing but trunkview blank page].

load the .xml file while scanner is connected. "Cannot connect to scanner".

Now,i realise its NOT a direct commport connection being usb/comm port.

I D/L the correct software for the usb/comm and its all a goer.but not from trunkview.

Few days ago i d/l proscan ,all is GOOD.

D/L the 996T UASD software. All is GOOD.

Now,silly question as im still in learning mode, can proscan or UASD decode MPT please?

it seems to run fine,Doogs, kindly sent me a file and theres MPT in there but it doesnt seem to stop on talk ids only in MPT ones.

Im almost there, just need some advice.

Cheers Rod

Trunkview trubbles

Post by Doogs38 »

Rod, the only application that can decode MPT systems (that I'm aware of) is Trunkview. How I listen to MPT systems is probably a little different to other folk, as I generally don't carry around a laptop to run Trunkview. Therefore, I program in all the voice channels I know of (for a particular system) and simply scan through them. It's not that hard to follow a conversation when the freq changes. In Ipswich, there are number of VHF & UHF MPT systems we can listen to, eg, Flinders View, Mt Stradbroke, Marburg and The Knobby systems. PM me if you need any help understanding my Proscan file :-)

The .xml file is just a list of sites and Base frequencies, so has nothing to do with comport communications.

I assume you also have an audio lead between the Speaker/Earphone socket on your scanner, and the Sound Card input (Line In) on your computer.

Proscan or UASD doesn't decode anything.

I would suggest that you ignore the Com Port connection to start with, and just get the audio side working first. In other words, get TrunkView decoding and displaying something on the screen first, then worry about controlling the scanner after that.

This webpage may be of some use.

Doogs,
the file you sent me is excellent and the scanner runs happily using it.The issues with Trunkview ISNT anything youve done.
Forget MPT for the moment,Proscan and USAD both controll the scanner beautifully including up/dn loading.

I like the way youve setup the talk channels on MPT,im listenning to them as i type

Comnit,
yes i agree adding sites files has nothing to do with comms ports, but trunkview was bucking at it.go figure.

And yes,its earphone to line input.

Trunkview is NOW displaying legible text but its NOT the sites file and its NOT from the scanner as the ids are wrong and the freqs just says 0.000 MHz.

The ONLY other things i personally can think of is baudrate or input volume
Its simply NOT controlling the scanner at this time.

But its in GOOD hands now and im waiting to hear back.

TY Comint,
This is only day 1 but so far im only getting a few hits.

I have an external antenna ,an old 9db [from memory] uhf cb base white stick. But its a hollow fibreglass and years old and the tip has been eaten away by cockatoos so she's probably full of water and corrosion by now.I stopped tx'ing on it years back for this reason.

but its coming together, the software is in full control and im enjoying LOL.

On some sites all i get is the motor noise,i assume its the control channel, but is there some way to not listen to this untill someones activates a channel? Not on all sites but only a few.

Cheers Rod

Yes. Mute the PC speakers.

If you have set up everything correctly, TrunkView will un-mute the PC speakers on a GTC Voice, and will re-mute the speakers on the CLEAR DOWN message.
