It'd only have a TGID if it's through a trunking network. Unless you're thinking of a NAC?

You are right on this VKC, however I would guess it is probably 1 or it will show if you are using DSDPlus

To program the conv channel you don't need a TGID.

Thats not entirely true melbournefan, if you were using it on a Scanner no you would not require it, if you were programming a P25 capable radio ie XTL2500, XTL5000 or TM9100 you will require the Talkgroup as if you dont have it the radio wont know what to listen for. yes you can change the NAC on the radio to a receive all NAC but you can not do this with the talkgroup

It needs to be clarified if the IMC channel is conventional or trunked. P25 is just the protocol that is used - it can be either conventional or trunked (just like an analog signal can be) so is really of no relevance to this discussion. Likewise, going through a repeater makes no difference, as they can also be conventional or trunked.

If the IMC channel is conventional, like most believe it is, then you simply program in the single frequency and off you go - no TGID needed as it is not trunked.

If the IMC channel is part of a trunked site with multiple frequencies and users then you will need the TGID so the scanner knows what to listen to from the group of frequencies.

In regards to the NAC, think of it as the P25 equivalent to CTCSS on analog. Like CTCSS, a NAC allows multiple users on one frequency but will only unmute the speaker if the person TXing is using the same code that you have programmed.

Ah, I see what you guys mean now. Listened to some of the Sunday morning P25 radio checks this morning for the first time, they're all talkgroup 1 from what I saw.
