Welcome to the forum!
Congrats on the acquisition of the scanner.
Might help if you fill out your profile - so we know where you are from and in particular what area/bands you are wanting to listen to

Welcome,
All Melbourne police are digital with encryption, regional areas are using VHF and as for airports I would use service searches aswell as using the ACMA Database to find frequencies in your area to listen to, I strongly suggest you read your manual as the 396XT has a steep learning curve if you are used to punching in the frequency and go
Good luck with your hunting

If you're in Lodden Mallee area forget the MMR Network linked to above, you need the RMR Network.
That website provided above initially had bucket loads of information just copied and pasted from the Vicscan.org site and they put it up when Vicscan ceased. (Little to no credit for where the information actually was sourced from). In recent months it's finally started to take on its own form.
Checkout Vicradio Zone (run by a former Admin of Vicscan, namely ME!) under the RMR Network. You'll find some frequencies of interest for the new RMR Network in your area. Good luck.

Awesome, it looks like there are a few channels we can listen to.Vk3nlc wrote:Here is the website i use its great, has analogue and digital TGID's.

The only problem I have is how do you program them into the scanner?
I use the Uniden software and ProScan.
Do you have the files for them or can explain how I program it?
Thats the main problem with digital, I don't understand what goes where or how to program it? When its all set up and working its ok but still I think I'm blocking channels I shouldn't or something? Its just too confusing for someone coming from analog to digital.

Here is VicPol, MFB, and ambos. http://rghost.net/60033354
All in Uniden format so just add them to the uniden software then sync with scanner and enjoy.

I cant see a frequency on that page. I'm trying to add in the VicPol to Uniden app and it needs a frequency.Vk3nlc wrote:Here is the website i use its great, has analogue and digital TGID's.

You can't listen to those, Vicpol is encrypted. You can listen to Regional Vicpol

Uniden UBCD396XT 25000CH Handheld Digital Scanner
Congrats on your purchase.. I found a fella named Jim who'll program the scanner for you for a small charge.
For $20 Jim contactable via email at
ubcd396xt@bigpond.com at my request installed my choice of some broad categories (fire, ambos etc in Vic and SA) of frequencies. He did a fantastic job. All you have to do is post the scanner to him and he does the rest.
The Uniden scanner has a steep learning curve I purchased via eBay a user guide produced by http://www.niftyaccessories.com that includes a condensed user manual and a credit card size cheat sheet. The Nifty guides are fantastic.

So Jim is charging $20.00 to program radios with information he got elsewhere for free? I'd like to know where my cut is, along with those who also supplied said information for him to use as a means of earning this money.
Credit to him for helping people but charging $20 to install a file, with information obtained for free and supplied in good faith, is a bit steep.
It takes mere seconds, a minute or two at most, to install and tweak a file.

It does seem a bit steep, and you would think that most people with a scanner have some nous in which they could figure it out themselves....

Re: Uniden UBCD396XT 25000CH Handheld Digital Scanner
Hey Guys,
Jim {Ozscan} set up my new 396XT. I couldn't have been more grateful. I knew my old Bearcat 120 XLT backwards, but,it was worth getting the digital set up for me. The old Bearcar is still good for Vicpol, and, local CFA Towers, now that the old broomstick Mobile One aerial is now firmly attached to my old chimney.
Anyone in Western Vic who needs help with some frequencies,I might be able to pass on what I've dug up in the last couple of weeks. Congrats to Pumper_50. Love your vicradio one site. Every little bit helps.
