Uniden EZI30XLT

Post by dazster »

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and scanners.

I just purchased a Uniden EZI30XLT Scanner and cannot seem to pickup anything on it. I live in Shepparton Victoria, and when I scan any of the preset Police, Fire, Ambo etc, it will not work. One of the guys at work who listens to the police gave me a frequency and I added it, but still nothing.

I am doing something wrong, or is this model a piece of junk?

Thanks

The EZI30XLT is a real 'beginners scanner'.

Unfortunately, the Users Manual does not specify what frequencies are in the 'preset banks', so it is a bit difficult to comment.

While the Police in major metropolitan areas around Australia generally use the same UHF Band, such is not the case in rural areas, with, for example, NSW using the 70-85 MHz Band, and Victoria using the 156-174 MHz Band in country areas, and there is no indication that the specific Police segments of these Bands are pre-programmed into the EZI30XLT.

I think you will find that the rural element of the Ambulance Service is on the Statewide Mobile Radio (SMR) network, which is an MPT1327 Trunked Radio System, and there is currently NO scanner that will allow you to monitor MPT1327. And it is my understanding that the Country Fire Authority has recently moved across to an APCO P25 Trunked Radio System, which also cannot be monitored by the EZ130XT scanner.

The CFA (Country Fire Authority) Victoria have not gone digital as yet. The new TAIT Radios have the capability to operate on the digital band, but as yet they are still using analogue. VicFire Country can be heard on :-

CFA
Channel________________Location__________Tx ______Rx___ CCTSS
201__DISPATCH 1____Ballarat Dispatch____157.9250 162.5250 118.1
202__DISPATCH 2____Shepparton Dispatch_159.0875 163.6875 118.1
203__DISPATCH 3____Mildura Dispatch____158.6750 163.2750 118.1
204__DISPATCH 4____Gippsland__________158.6750 163.2750 107.2
205__DISPATCH 5______________________158.6750 163.2750 103.5
206__DISPATCH 6______________________157.7750 162.3750 118.1

If you don't include the CCTSS, you should hear most of country Victoria on 158.6750. Outer Metro CFA are dispatched from Tallyho on the following frequencies.

27__REGION 8 VICFIRE__Dunns Hill________158.1250* 162.6750 179.9
____________________ Arthurs Seat______158.1250* 162.7250 179.9
____________________ Bass Hill_________158.1250* 162.4125 179.9

All the 15x MHz frequencies posted above, are actually the Repeater input frequencies, so you won't hear very much at all, unless you are near one of the Dispatch Centres, or near an appliance transmitting to a repeater. The correct frequencies to listen to, are the 16x MHz frequencies.

They use Vote Groups.

sorry i dont understand what votting groups mean im doing a little research on it now im more knowlegeble in the hf area of radios when it comes to repeaters and stuff i have no idea. also recently went and parked near esta in ballarat the other day. to scan round to see what id pick up could only pick up the ballarat region police. i thought this is starange i cant pick up any of the other regions like the seymour police considering all of the communications are coming from the esta building.
