VKR using Google Earth and Google Maps

Post by jrd »

Hate to start so many threads on one night, but it has been very busy in Toowoomba tonight!

A couple of very candid responses from VKR I thought around 01:40:

1) "Sorry, there is only 2 of us on, you'll have to wait"
2) "Sorry, just waiting for Google Maps and Google Earth to boot up here"

VKR continues a few minutes later to provide directions based on "Google Maps".

I am surprised VKR is relying on Google Maps and Google Earth... I mean, they're good, but...

I don't think they would primarily rely on google maps, it might have been a new estate or something that wasn't in their version of mapping software. I know NZ Police use software called TUMONZ which is pretty flash.

Google is sometimes just quicker and easier to use.. I know in townsville the QPS mapping isn't very good and they contact QFRS sometimes in search of streets..

Reece,

firstly welcome to the forums nice to see a new face it is a suggestion the you head over to the members introductions area and let us know who you are,

as for QPS using Google Maps and Google Earth instead of QPrime maps is it is not always easy for them to find the street as it took a gentleman in PCC Brisbane approx 5 minutes to find the cross of Logan and Shire, from what i hear it is often complex and google maps is a good place to start so you can look at a general area.
