Gunman opens fire on man in tourist strip
5 December 2010 By Dan Knowles
GUNMAN is being hunted in busy Surfers Paradise after a man was shot in the chest.
Police said the man, 42, was shot in the chest in a park on the Esplanade in Surfers Paradise shortly after 9pm last night.
A police spokesman said officers had cordoned off several streets along the Esplanade and were hunting for the gunman.
The road runs between the beach and apartment complexes.
Police believe the man was gunned down in the park but the cause of the dispute or the weapon used remained unknown.
They are combing through CCTV footage of the area, confident they would find the shooter.
Ambulance officers said the man was treated at the scene before being taken to the Gold Coast Hospital in a stable condition.
