Uniden 996xt Filter Upgrade??

Hi all.
I'm just wondering if anyone here has done the filter mod using the Murata 50g filter? I've been reading a thread about it on Radio Reference and thought I may give it a go as challenging as SM boards are to work on.
I get a bit annoyed at what perceive to be scratchy reception sometimes and the tinny tone and this filter mod sounds like it's worthing trying.
