Hi mate,

Yeah I've been having a look recently into it however when I've been on there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity yet, I heard a couple of weeks back a train requesting the RDC on DMR, but I never heard a response and there hasn't been anything since. I've a pretty decent signal on the back deck here at Petrie and I've taken the computer to Mt Coot-Tha + the airport a couple of times and from what I've seen, the network seems to be live but with no voice traffic. Meanwhile, the old analogue net is still getting a fair workout. My guess is that maybe they're still running tests somewhere out of my range, or still equipping trains?

As far as the net being Tier 3 is concerned, I'm not sure if there's any support yet for automated switching frequencies to follow conversations from the control channel (anyone please correct me if I'm wrong, I would be interested) however I do believe that you can manually just choose the frequencies as they appear and listen. I would also recommend using earphones due to the nature of TDMA, can get a bit annoying with two channels at once playing through the computer speakers, judging from what I've heard off the Orion + Brisbane Airport Corporation nets.

Further to my last, I should mention I've been using DSD with an RTL-SDR dongle + SDR #. I've been mulling over purchasing a Whistler TDX-1 or 2, but I'm still holding out for the Australian DMR upgrade for the 436-PT, which was beautiful in Melbourne, a little less so back up here.

Gold Coast still on 418.150 MHz FM. Will put those other freq in my AOR- AR-DV1 scanner and see what come up. Tier 3 would be a bit like the old trunking system, I guess.

Queensland Rail's fleet of trains have been installed for some time, but who knows how long it will take for them to use the new network.

Correct me if i am wrong but my understanding is the DSD software can decode Tier 3 DMR whereas the AOR AR-DV1 only can decode Tier I and Tier 2 DMR

Correct, had a look at mine and yes only 1 and 2, but as the firmware can be upgraded by the developers.
who would know if this would be added in the future.

Cheers.

Tier III is trunking and while the AOR DV-1 cannot trunk, it can still resolve the audio. The down side is, no TG or RID ID's are displayed. As the DV-1 has a factory fitted discriminator (AUX) output, it is best used in conjunction with DSD, if the above information is sought.

Thanks Guys for everyone's feedback.

Yes, i see the extensive fitout of Simoco DMR Radios on the Aurizon Diesel fleet, for when they travel into the SEQ Network. I see that analogue maybe around for sometime i suppose, it is a big transition to get things migrated across smoothly to the DMR Network for such a large fleet/network.

So, the AOR DV1 users, are you happy with how the unit is performing? And is it worth the $$$, i mean the DSD Plus & SDR with USB Stick is doing the job, but the AOR DV-1 looks like the go....

Thanks again..

Very happy with the AOR-DV1, yes a bit costly but well worth it, AOR release firmware updates as required the last allows Tetra to be decoded now.

But remember it is a receiver and not a scanner.

Also have the SDR-Play as well and yes with supporting software it will allow you to decode the majority of things to listen to.

I guess it will be what suits you in the end, I am happy with both radio devices. Plenty of stuff to listen to on Gold Coast, the majority in the digital format is DMR and IDAS not that much P25 stuff that is in the open.

There is currently (from about 11.20am 12/1) a test train doing a run from BNE down to the Gold Coast. Lots of test calls to 30 and testing in the tunnels. Stopped for lunch at 12.30 down south and then coming back to BNE

In BNE they have also re-patched a couple of the analog channels running into talkgroups 6008 and 6009.

For some reason (which I still can't resolve) DSD+ is not properly decoding the audio (despite it working perfectly on Orion, BAC and Philcomm trunking systems and various DMR). The audio cuts in and out every second or so and the FMP24 VC FFT display drops in and out.

Cool Dags... I see the American Version says Tier 3 Compatible, so does it actually follow the network, and does it display ID's and Talkgroups etc. ?
