Coffs Harbour & MNC frequencies

Post by binbash »

Hi all,

New to the forum, thanks for having me :D .

I'm in Coffs Harbour and have just been getting into scanning with some GT-3Mkii's and a 396xt. I've recently picked up the new NSWRFS digital PMR frequencies that operate from the Boambee, Mt. Coramba, Mt. Moombil & Saphire sites, all on 427.2125mhz. The ACMA listing is registered to "NEW SOUTH WALES GOVERNMENT TELECOMMUNICATIONS AUTHORITY (20005985)" - on their website it says;"The NSW Telco Authority is responsible for the overall coordination of radio telecommunication services for the NSW Government" and lists the NSWRFS as a network user. Is this a new department that liaises between ACMA and public safety agencies?
https://www.telco.nsw.gov.au

Just wondering if anybody has any other confirmed frequencies for council/npws/ambo's or any other public safety agency around here(being that we're outside the NSWGRN coverage) that I can tune in to?

Cheers,
bb

Welcome to the forum. Great first post. We look forward to many more posts on here. Be sure to post back your findings for other to learn from.

I'm not 100% sure of the NSW GRN, but there are plenty of people on here that will be able to assist.

The ACMA frequency register is your friend!
They are disabling the postcode search option, so make the most of it while you can.
Go to the link below and start exploring. The site location map is probably the best place to start.

Yes ACMA Postcode search is the way to go

Air493 - How do you know about the postcode option being deleted? That is one of the most useful parts of the online database. (Update: you are right. Just saw the warning. I understand that under the old search parameters it allowed you to bring up too many records which would cause database processing issues, hence the change)

As for Coffs, one of the members here Alison is the resident expert .... She may be able to expand on the acma listing

Police went encrypted 12mths ago so you can forget about them. You will end up locking out the police P25 digital squiggles between 467.8500-469.425mhz in the end
Ambos have moved to the Government band 467.500-470.000 MHz. Still analog
Firies are still in the 410-420mhz band, mainly around 419mhz depending on which site you listen to. Analog
SES are in the 410-430mhz range. migrating to P25
RFS are in the 420-430mhz range in P25
Coffs Harbour Council are on 160mhz P25
GRN has not been introduced yet. Bulahdelah is the northern most site

Most of the Government licences apart from NSW police shows the Telco stamp but each agency still has its own client number under the Telco umbrella

When you do a search 420-425Mhz you will find that the NSW Telco has numerous sub-client numbers

525851 = GRN
20008471 = FRNSW
20005985 = RFS
20012532 = SES
1218049 = MDRN
20019469 = Low Power Services

That will tell you who you are listening to

Thanks for the replies.

Blacktown, on what Air493 has said, have just seen the notice for this on the ACMA page;

Screen Shot 2016-12-05 at 11.33.31 AM.png
Will be a shame when the all the info on there becomes outdated or if they take the site down before that happens.

Heard these frequencies recently;

463.6250 - NSW-Corrections(Parklea)?

Taxi;
487.800 - Kempsey
487.0750 - South West Rocks
485.4500 - Nambucca
485.400 - Coffs Harbour
It's interesting how they have the phone line that customers ring to book patched through to the taxi radio - presumably to cut down on admin/call centre related expenses?

NSWFR;
Have many sites around Coffs, have heard them on at least 6 different frequencies around the 420mhz area. Used to hear them very clearly on 419.100 from Grafton down to Hat Head but recently it has been very soft almost to the point of unusable. Confirmed are;
419.100
419.200
I'll add the rest when I get home.

Anybody know of Essential Energy or NSW Parks & Wildlife freq's around here?

The info will remain up to date, just the postcode search option will be become inactive. Since new records won't have a postcode attached, any search done will only show the records created prior to the change over.

Coffs Harbour is also pretty good for airband listening. I can attach a link to ERSA if you are interested, or use the map search feature for the airport (map search on airports is usually very interesting!)

The acma search system currently (or use to) potentially allows for every record to be brought up under the post code search which is obviously tying up system resources and slowing everything down.That is obviously a software programming issue that somebody hadnt thought through when they rewrote it for the new frequency database. I can recall limitations in the distant past.

Further to the earlier discussion, the ACMA Postcode Search no longer exists from 2/2/17
It was possible up to the end of January to still use the postcode search

Essential Energy are in the 467 Government Band along with ASNSW, NPWS are in VHF High Band 160MHz or still operating in the 66-88 band, Transgrid are further down the band.
