Just starting to get into shortwave as brisbane is going on grn etc soon,so what are a couple of good frequencies to start my shortwave journey i live around the chermside area

Its hard to say because conditions are constantly changing and a lot of stations have mutable frequency's to match different ionospheric conditions. your best bet is Google or just have a tune around and see what skip is coming in

These are the Ham radio bands if you want to listen to them

160 metres 1.800-1.875mhz
80 metres 3.500-3.800mhz
40 metres 7.000-7.300mhz
30 metres 10.100-10.150mhz
20 metres 14.000-14.350mhz
17 metres 18.068-18.168mhz
12 metres 24.890-24.990mhz
10 metres 28.000-29.700mhz
