Busy New Years Eve on the North Coast.
Police were run ragged in places like Byron Bay.
Actually, all of the beach towns had their shares of drunken yobbos.
All normal.
To add to the fun, communications were handed over to VKG Tamworth at 7:00 pm.
Didn't help a lot that the operators, mostly, were not familiar with local place names and often, had to have them spelt out.
And transmissions weren't, always clear. The delay caused by bouncing the signals around the state meant crews had to hold the button down for a few seconds to make sure their call-signs were audible.
One or two crew members expressed dismay that a handover would take place on a night like NYE.
One operator seemed baffled too.
