I recently installed a GME AE4018K1 HEAVY DUTY HI GAIN ANTENNA... on my car with a icom 400 pro.... the trouble is it doesnt quite clear my garage door, and I would like to cut about 120mm off it... Is it a bad idea and is it likely to have much of an effect on reception?....
Cheers Paul..... (yes I'm a novice)

Paul,

im sure im gonna be corrected if im wrong. if you do cut the antenna you are technically tuning the antenna to another centre frequency that may be way off from UHF CB, that also being said UHF Antennas are alot more forgiving then VHF antennas. if you have the money i would purchase a new antenna that clears the garage. i would personally recommend a RFI CD900 however that is only 80mm shorter

You can get swivel mounts that go on the bullbar or whatever and you could adjust it to an angle where it is clearing the garage. I wouldn't cut it though what Brisbanescan said was my understanding aswell.

As brissy mentioned - you are effectively tuning the antenna to another frequency - this may affect your transmissions on the antenna - as for RX - it may make it better/worse - depending on what you are listening to - you may not even notice a difference??
