Surfcom possibly changing radio system

Post by ziggybyrne »

Surf clubs have been told not to purchase any new radios or spend too much on their existing fleet as they will not be compatible with the new "system" to be implimented in the near future.
Has anybody got anything to add to this? I cant see them going grn or digital as the cost would be substantial. 12.5 khz narrowband seems the most likely reason to me.
Any thoughts on this guys?

The ACMA is restructuring the 400 MHz band and users will be required to relocate to various areas of the band, depending on their use, eg, amateur, government, non-government. All radios are to be required to comply with a 12.5kHz spacing. In areas of congestion, this is to occur by 2015 and in other areas by 2018. This will may cause a load of problems but the "government" area will be between 400 and 430 MHz.

Or Analog - depending on how they are programmed.

This may have been hire kit, the order to not purchase new radios come about becuase they were looking at moving to digital using IDAS since all of the repeaters were/are Icom FR series. The info I have is about 6-9 months old so things may have changed.

Looks like SLSQ are changing to an Icom IDAS system, using these http://www.radiocomms.com.au/products/5 ... built-GPS-

Can this be monitored with a BCD436 please?

If its proprietary, is there an Icom ham handheld that might be able to monitor it?

Thanks, Grant

No known scanner can listen to DMR or NXDN at this stage, you will require a scanner discriminator tap or SDR to listen

There is one scanner due for release that can monitor those protocols.

NSW Lifesaving are flagging a move in the near future to Dmr Tier II and recommending that clubs buy the Hytera PD782G model. Analog for the interim
