Brisbane Airport Viewing?

Post by alinco21 »

Hi,
Whats the best viewing spot for the Brisbane Airport?

Heading up that way this week to drop someone off there and then would like to sit somewhere with camera and scanner in hand possibly in the car. (without getting booked).

Depending on what time you are there....

If during the day - keep heading past the domestic terminal (up towards the General Aviation/RFDS section) and take a right when you get to the end of the road - head down past the freight operators and then you will come to a loop - most people sit there - however that section of the road is commonally a taxi holding bay now (typically during the night) and the security locks off that area at night as well.

Google earth the airport and you will see the area i am talking about - near the threshold of runway 01 - just to the west of the runway.

Taken from www.bne.com.au

Observation Area
There is a designated public viewing area located at the northern end of the airport on Acacia Street. The usual hours of operation are 6am - 6pm daily. However, temporarily until March 2010, this viewing area is closed from 2pm. The reason for this closure is because this area is used for the taxi holding area while current construction is taking place. To get to Acacia Street head towards the Domestic Terminal along Airport Drive. Turn Left at the large roundabout onto Dryandra Road, this will take you behind the Long Term Car park. Keep following the road along and Acacia Street the fifth street on your right. If you are planning to use some telescopic material to take photographs we would request that you enquire with our Corporate Relations department on +61 3406 3192 so that they can notify Airport Security.

there is also a good spot behind the airport on Lomandra Drive if you are after Cargo Planes or of the aircraft coming in and out

From the Acacia St lookout you should be able to see both Runways 32 Right and Runway 19 Left

or you could try this website gate52 - YBBN
they have Airport Frequencies aswell as an indepth guide for good photo spots
