Simoco/Phillips PRM 8010 VHF A9
Hey guys a weird request here,
Im after a (Simoco preferably but and old Phillips shall suffice) PRM8010 VHF A9 Band Radio, or in fact any PRM80 model thats on the A9 VHF Band but preferebly an 8010 or 8020.
BUT,
It need NOT be transmitting properly, it just needs to be recieving well and have working audio and must have the DB15 connector on the back (NO MODEM this shouldnt be a worry as 8010 and 8020's didnt come with factory fitted modems). (Ill upload a photo of identifying the connector if needed) I will still look at buying radios that have TX but for costs sake it need not to have transmit working.
For those wondering why, im looking at making a repeater out of it for a VHF commercial freq. I already have a working radio for TX I just need one for the RX side of the repeater. Will be getting the other essential parts when I have the two radios working.
Thanks guys, any help in locating one if nobody here has one would be apreciated also

Once upon a time I had a W1 band one running, worked a treat!youngn wrote:Hey guys a weird request here
You've got an 8030 model here: (A9 by the looks of it)
http://www.tradingpost.com.au/Entertain ... P002481412
If you are going to program them to suit (and disable the TX in the RX radio) then Mick from MB Radio runs this group that could be of some help; http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PRM80-Series/
The old repeater-builders.com.au website has closed unfortunately.

Thanks Bro... was tempted to get on my bike and go for a ride to springwood DSE to get parts and make one.scrawn80 wrote:you can just use a scranner for rx if you can find a cheap one

(I need this radio programmed!! Its so sad it sits on the table with its sibling radios just, asleep )
If i use a scanner how will i connect them together? i was looking at using a simple PRM interface cable between the two radios with the DB15 connectors.
Cheers,

That 8010, does it have the DB15 connector on the rear of the radio?

If I end up doing what I was planning yes, but I do not have the other one anymore and probably wont so I am just after a single radio with the capability if need be in the future.

As Orangepeel is an amateur radio operator I can understand the views and concerns about illegal and pirate transmissions.

Re: Simoco/Phillips PRM 8010 VHF A9
There are "some people" out there whom think that they are above the law and they can do as they please. Then again there are some people that may not know what requirements there are to own a repeater. The face it that everything that comes out of an aerial is goverened by the ACMA.
Whether or not this is to do with Amateur/commercial/Aeronautical/Citizen Band radio - the fact is to own a repeater - it must be licenced.
Anyway - back on topic. The PRM is a great littl radio - there was one setup already to go on Ebay a little while ago - however i am not sure of what band it was for. Have a look on that website i PM'd you Youngn and i think you may find a few radios on there - or you could put a request in to see who may have one sitting around and not being used ....
Dont blame me - if you have a gripe - have a chat to the ACMA.

Yeah cheers for that PM orangepeel,
I'm going for my foundation licence this Sunday.
From there it will be gathering up some $$$ to get on air.
Cheers,

Re: Simoco/Phillips PRM 8010 VHF A9
Amateurs typically get the back seat when it comes to spectrum allocations. There's more money in handing out commercial licences than from licencing amateurs. Amateurs cop interference from a lot of off band services and there is not much we can do if it is from a licenced service.

Re: Simoco/Phillips PRM 8010 VHF A9
All that was asked was if there was going to be proper licensing for any proposed repeaters etc. That is hardly being an "authorised officer from a government agency."
Sorry, but it actually sounds like you are being more of an "officer" patrolling what is posted on this forum. If you have a problem with what is being posted, lodge a complain to the admin, Shane, and he will deal with it accordingly.
My apologies to the rest for all of this.

Come on guys keep it on topic, its all about legalities. If you want to fight about it please feel free to refer to this page http://www.acma.gov.au/interforms/rltd_Enquiry.asp Its the last thing we need ACMA going through this whole site and picking holes in it.
