This arrived yesterday:

The receiver is genuine import from AOR Japan, but the AA's are 1700 mha. Made in China!

Anyone recommend where I can order some better?

The manual says the batteries can be charged either on a separate charger or while they are in the receiver. I don't know which is the best way. Anyone help me here?

My ICOM IC-RX7 works with a lithium and has a lot more stamina. Going back to AA's is a retro step, but this unit can work directly off the mains.

I gave it a trial run last night. The light nearly blinded me!!! Great how it goes out and automatically lights up when it finds a signal or you touch a control pad.

Airband booms in. I was picking up BNE and Gold Coast Centres as well as in flight movements. This is with the supplied telescopic antenna.

Nice rig airman, so envious of you. Been 15 years since I had an AOR AR1500

I recommend the eneloop batteries

You can get them from battery world

I use the eneloop in my gear here, and no I do not work for battery world
Cheers

Thanks for the tip re batteries BG. Yes I have 4 Eneloop plus a Sanyo NimH charger to power my keyboard and mouse for my iMac, so they are pretty good and made in Japan as well. They are 2000maH.

I will look at Battery World. TX

New radios for my new boat's fit out
All GME marine in black
GX600D(dcs model),
GX300(27Mhz AM Marine + CB),
GX200(AM/FM/SW + VHF RX + connection for my 160gb iPod),
TX4600(UHF CB)

had some very nice antennas custom made by Mobile One, talked to one of the antenna designers and he build me one VHF(3db) one 27MHz and one UHF(7db), all the same length and diameter, going to use one of the GME diplexers on the 27Mhz ant for the GX200
These will all be mounted on a fold over rack above the hard top(if the guy ever finishes it)

Other gear on the boat at the moment
garmin GPSmap 420S GPS plotter/sounder
Eagle and JRC sounders
Why so many sounder?
the Garmin will just be used as GPS
and the JRC is better for fish finding
and the Eagle is better for depth finding at speed
