Help? Car Problem

Post by SunnybankScan »

Hi all

I have a bit of a problem.

I own a 2002 VX Commodore, I went to start it yesterday, and it wouldnt start. Due to the clicking noise and dimming electrics I have come to the conclusion, its the battery, anyway, I have since let it be overnight to worry about it Saturday. But to my amazement today, the car will not unlock with the central locking or when trying to overide with the key, thus, I cannot open the bonnet to replace/jump start the battery.

Does anyone know anything about commodores, or know how to manually overide the central locking. Or even better, the bonnet?

P.S - Tampering is a bit risky, I have a sensitive after market alarm, so when this bad boy goes off (If it does), I cant stop it because the key does not work.

Cheers

I would have thought that you would be still able to unlock the drivers door with the key only, the central locking won't work as there is no power.

This is not the case. I thought this aswell, but the key actually acts as a manual way to open the cars central locking, so everything is electric. I have tried with no prevail anyway.

Does the alarm run off the main battery?

If so, then if there isnt enuf power to even run central locking how will it have enuf power to supply teh alarm?

Im sure if you go underneath the car at the front you should be able to get an arm or something up into the latch for the bonnet and undo it.

Hey you could just "pop" a window

Ahh well ull find some way.

Maybe find a holden dealer, theres a master key to deactivate the central locking system. but I have no idea why turning the key in the door wont work.

Most decent alarms have a battery back-up in them so dissconnecting the battery doesn't shut them off.

Apparantly the key will work, you just need to turn it further in the lock than what you would normally.

The driver side door is the only door with a key hole. The boot on the VX does not have a key hole, there is no power in the car to open the boot via the key, even if it did work, opening the boot with the key does not deactivate the alarm because the doors are still locked.

If it was a Ford it would have a blown head gasket.
This is the time of year when people find out that the battery isn't as good as it used to be. Colder weather means the battery has less cranking power.

The key trick did end up working, it somehow overrides the lock without unlocking the door. I have had RACQ come out and replace it. Thanks to everyone for their help.
