How did you become involved in the radio hobby?

I have always been interested in how people have become involved in the radio hobby (if this is amateur radio, shortwave DXing, mediumwave DXing or radio scanning) and what made them take up this hobby in the first place.

I would like to publish a series of posts on my blog around this subject, so I am looking for people involved in the radio hobby who would like to share their story with me so I can publish this on my blog.

Some questions which might be useful:
- When and how did you become involved in the radio hobby?
- Did a particular person have a large influence in this?
- What area of the radio hobby are you most involved / interested in?
- How do you see the radio hobby changing in the next five years for yourself?
