rural vic police using digital encryption on local

Post by vkcpolice »

Ive been trying to work out what the conventnal frequencys are for vic police local radio traffic. I found a few on the net and when I hear then say go to local 1 I hear nothing and at 1 point I was standing right next to the police vehicle. All the local police in my distric are aware that I have radio scanners and know for a fact that I listen to them and one of them told me that we have a radio we talk on that you cant hear. Im wondering if they are talking about there local coms.

could also be 2 local on the MMR . some if not all country areas have mmr radios installed and this could be what he is talking about , failing that use close call ,,, that will find it ,,

I have heard these used at the same time on a Friday night, so these are 100% correct

Local 1
Freq: 161.2375
Tone: 107.2

Local 2
Freq: 161.2500
Tone: 107.2
These have been monitored all across metro Melbourne and the mornington peninsula by a number of us , mainly over the public holiday breaks such as xmass or easter , mainly around blitz areas or booze busses , some of the traffic is very entertaining , some were monitored comparing notes on the local talent , and who was and wasn't using mobile phones ,,, def worth having these in the scanner I have not heard them used in a while but they do pop up from time to time !!!

Why don't you try tracking down a digital carrier to confirm?

Any digital signal comming from the police would be encrypted the only digital signal I get in the country is from the rmr control ch that is not currently broadcasting any talk groups as far as I know

Goes without saying it is most likely a 5w simplex signal.
Either the vhf input or output frequency
I would trawl the acma vhf listing licenced to them, write down every frequency both input and output, stick them into the banks an old scanner like a uniden 780 and let it do the searching while you do something else, like read a book
Soon or later you will find the frequency (s), either analogue or digital
That is how i would do it

Further to the above, Victoria Police have regional frequencies licensed for statewide use

5w simplex: 153.0500

50w duplex: 161.1375, 161.1500, 161.2500, 468.4750, 468.8000, 468.9500

UHF would require a second radio, probably a portable. Have you scanned the uhf police band as well, input as well as the output ie 458-460mhz and 467.8500-469.4250Mhz?
