A LIGHT aircraft has been wrecked after running away from its pilot at an outback airport.
Police are investigating the incident at Coober Pedy airport in South Australia's north, in which a pilot was unable to start the Cessna from the cockpit so got out to spin the propeller by hand.

The plane then started and travelled 300m along the runway before it nose-dived into a 2.5m deep ditch and rolled over.

Police are yet to interview the pilot, who is understood to be unharmed as a result of the incident which happened about 10am (CST) today.

The aircraft was owned by a company based at Parafield Airport in Adelaide.

I reckon the pilot got quite a fight when it started traveling down the runway, and then I reckon he said a few words that I can't quote here.
