4WD Antenna

Post by InDaBack »

Hi Guys

A question for those with antenna knowledge.

Yesterday I had removed my bullbar and antenna to do some work on the 4WD. The antenna is a UHF ?6db black fibreglass about 1 metre long, with a large spring at the base. The type seen on most 4WDs.

When remounting the antenna I noticed the black fibreglass section was loose so I tried to screw it tight.

It wouldn't tighten and when I pulled it up, it came out of the metal spring base.

Inside, there is a section of ? coax approximately 30 40 cm long, much shorter than the actual fibreglass rod.

Does anyone know if this is normal? Does the fibreglass rod has a metal (?copper) inner to assist with signal reception or is the length for show only?

If necessary I can take a couple of photos and post them
