Antenna for scanner

Post by NEALE » Thu Feb 27, 2014 7:46 pm

Hi guy's, first post, so g'day
I am putting up a mast for a tv antenna in my workshop, and a couple of meters above that a uhf antenna for 477 megs, how well does a uhf antenna work as a general scanner antenna? Or should I look at a dedicated antenna

What band are u wanting to listen into?

Most of the time, it will be ok for the general user/listener

For general listening - a 477 Antenna will be fine

If your interested in picking up a single tower or area in that band some distance away, a directional yagi can really make the difference. It's surprising really.

I used to be full on into 27 meg... power-the works and the best upgrade I ever made was the yagi!
But at the moment an omni will do
