Jack plug conversion
Anyone here know how to convert a stereo jack plug into a mono?
I know there are adapters for this, but i was wondering if the jack plug insulators (left ear/right ear) could be joined or shorted thus making it mono aural.
Cheers

Re: Jack plug conversion
I am fairly sure that if you short the leads together that should over come the stero prob and enable it to be mono all the way theu - both ears....
There is no real problem - as in 99% of headsets there is no power sent from the unit to the headset
The only headsets i know that carry power are some noise cancelling headsets

So how does one 'short' the leads?orangepeel wrote:I am fairly sure that if you short the leads together that should over come the stero prob and enable it to be mono all the way theu - both ears....
Like this?
Cut the leads, bare the wires, join up the bared wires in a twist together, join the twisted ends and apply insulation tape.
Tell me if I'm wrong

Airman,
what size plug (3.5mm or 6mm) are you using, what is it attached to, and what do you want to plug it into?

Its 3.5mm to 3.5mm and you can see how much it sticks out when it's put in the socket.

Re: Jack plug conversion
Ahh, ok I see now..
I had the same problem using stereo headphones on my Uniden and AOR scanners.
Sound would only come from one earpiece.
My solution was to buy a pair of inexpensive lightweight headphones and cut the stereo plug off the cable.
I then soldered a mono plug to the cable......just solder the red/white or red/black wires to the tip connection and the braided wire to ground.

Re: Jack plug conversion
Just solder the mono signal cable end to the stereo tabs on the pin. This will give you the mono signal on both channels.
