ARFF Frequencies

Post by dizzie131 »

Hi everyone.
I am trying to listen to the ARFF firetrucks at the airport (Adelaide).
I programmed the freq's from here, but when I go to the airport, it's just white noise.
Has anyone had any luck with picking up the ARFF trucks?
I have a Uniden UBCD396XT.
Cheers.

Have you got the scanner set to digital only on the channels you've programmed in?

These frequencies don't seem to correspond with the ACMA database. You can check out the ACMA database at this link...

It's so hard figuring out which freq to put in the scanner using the ACMA database (newbie here)

Yep the ACMA database can be a bit daunting. Go the the frequency assignment part, the page I sent, pop the post codes in, and you'll need to include post codes up to about 30 klm away, or more, pop in some frequencies and have a look at who's where and what sort of frequencies they are using. Have a look at the emission designator and look at the last letter. If it's a D, forget it, it's a digital signal. Don't really worry about the rest of it. Once you have an idea of who's around your area, and the sort of frequencies they are on, or might be on, set your scanner up to search between two frequencies and see what you find. Remember though, not all frequencies are heavily used and you may have to spend some time to find them. Don't forget that the air band frequencies are AM.

So if it's got a D at the end, I cannot scan it using my 396XT?

The ARFF frequencies listed there are P25 Conventional (ie NOT Trunked), and agree with the ACMA Database.

No you should be able to listen to it fine, just set those channels to digital only in the menu
