AM CB Radio

Hi guys, just wondering about an AM CB radio that i found at a tip. The radio still works, but i am wondering if it is legal to use. If it is legal, what sort of antenna and hardware I would be needing to talk to people overseas, if possible. I have heard stories about people contacting others overseas and want to do the same. But if you are keen get a secondhand 27mhz antenna off ebay and power supply or battery and have a go ,

Doesn't get much action these days.
I've still got some of my old 27 meg gear though.
Should dig it out and have a play.
The advantage was the 'skip' factor (tropospheric ducting to be precise).
I haven't personally heard it, but have heard of people apparently skipping from QLD coast to Hawaii?
Not too sure about that though.

The CBRS operates on designated channels in two distinct frequency bands:

HF - 26.965 MHz to 27.405 MHz (inclusive)

UHF – 476.4125 to 477.4125 MHz (inclusive).

CB radios must only be operated on these channels. An earlier equipment specification, RB249, allowed the use of two channels, 27.095 MHz and 27.195 MHz these are no longer approved for use.

What on earth are you on about? the AM and SSB band has never been more active. however if you are gonna stick to AM you wont hear much skip channel 4 ,6 ,11 are the main AM skip channels you should hear a bit on those channels but good luck getting out on the legal 4 watts

interesting that 27mhz is still alive.. surprised actually.

i still have in the garage a old uniden ax144 in decent condition just missing a mic!

and pretty sure i might even have a station master hidden somewhere on the garage roof.

here in nz we hear a lot of hawaii on 27.085 am and most of them havent got a clue how to use a radio (or linear)
