Bought a GME 685S (I think)
My old IC40S should come home tomorrow...new battery and a minor (I hope) repair.
Will, probably, pick up a Uniden 73XLT too.
Anyway I notice that all of the 40 channels I am accessing are "hi-power"...as I have set them.
EXCEPT ch5.
I don't seem to have a choice of settings there. Doesn't say "Hi" or "Low'.
All of the other channels are marked.
NOT A PROBLEM.....just wondering what is happening.
While on that, I am in the bottom end of the Northern Rivers NSW.
I can trigger a ch5 repeater....no one can tell me where it is.
Call sign is difficult to decipher....could be "NBI" or similar.
Very scratchy...but more reliable than the ch 7 repeater near Lismore.
On another tack, I have activated "scan" on the first 40 channels on the 685.
And the IC40s only has 40 channels.
Am I missing something?
I mean the first 40 don't seem to carry much traffic in this area.
And scanning 80 takes something like "forever".
Is there something about the final 40 I need to know?

Was a regular in the early days of rec.radio.scanner and the first Aus scanner forums.
The moderation was non existent and they died.
Looks like this place is very well managed
I know how much effort that can take....been there.
