Anyone out there active with APRS?

Looking at getting into it and I have a kit coming soon.

What sort of things can you pick up with an APRS kit?

APRS - Automatic Packet Reporting System, an Amateur Radio system developed by Bob Bruninga in about 1984.

I think you are confusing it with AIS (boats) and ACARS (planes).

It wasn't used widely until the mid 90's, about 94 or 95
I think it was Kenwood in the very late 90's or early 2000 that that put the mode into their radios.

In the early 90's we were using packet radio at that time but APRS didn't take off until a quite a few years later

I use APRS via my android and iphone and it is a cheap and easy way to get into APRS
