The firmware in this model has been altered so the frequency ranges and pre-programmed assignments suit Australian conditions. The changes are not significant enough for it to wear the UBCD prefix, thereby the BCD designation.

Copy that railscan.

I now notice a few more ebay sellers as well with the same scanner.

I assume they are importing these scanners from the US and on selling them?

Finally some action from Uniden Aust on the new scanners that the Yanks have had for 2 years?

See, Uniden states they are available through Pacific Telecommunications, yet the Pac Tele website does not have them listed!

I ordered a Uniden UBCD536-PT from Jim at OZSCAN, it will be here next week to supplement my BCD436HP and the 396T with remote head in the car. Unfortunately the 396T with remote head will need to be replaced when P25 Phase 2 arrives. Jim has supplied me with an SD card for the 436 for the Australian frequencies and even updated the 396T with CFA and other emergency services. Maybe Uniden will bring out a new remote control head?????

The 536 PT is the base station/mobile unit and is here now, the 436 PT is the handheld version which a number of people have said it won't be on sale to the public until all the CFA needs are met, hence "Coming Soon". I bought the US version from OZSCAN some time back and am fitting a new SD card to give me the Newer Australian frequencies identical to the 436 PT & 536 PT.

You don't need a new SD card to get the aussie frequency's. Just program it yourself with the known frequencys

It is a personal choice, of course I could if I had the time, the knowledge, the equipment, etc. sometimes there are things people just can't manage for many reasons, I wouldn't try to be an electrician or a plumber so I would pay for that service. Maybe once I have Sentinel installed I will experiment, but for now I am thankful for the service offered by OZSCAN. My first "Scanner" was a Lafayette Guardian I I uhf/vhf TUNEABLE portable radio in 1969, things were a lot easier then!
