As I have mentioned, I have, recently, returned to scanning after years of only occasional interest.
Anyway, back in the 90s, police used to refer to "Eagle Phone". It was, I believe, an in-service telephone service.
"Closed circuit" in effect.
The public intercom stations at police stations seemed to serve to connect to VKG in emergencies when the station was unmanned.
Haven't heard it mentioned, lately. Is it still in use?
Maybe the proliferation of mobile phones has made it redundant?
Clues?

Re: Eagle Phone
Yes it would be still in use, it is actually called eagle net. It is the term they use when using their internal phone system, all cop shops etc have some sort of voice tie line between them. When you what to call between cop shops you only dial an internal extn number.
The NSW police has a large internal phone network.

Re: Eagle Phone
A day or so ago, I heard a car crew member asking for an "external number" because his phone didn't work on Eagle Net.
A glitch...or a thing with Eagle Net?

Re: Eagle Phone
Not sure what you are asking here, there are no eagle net phones in the cars?

Re: Eagle Phone
There ARE mobile phones.
The officer couldn't ring an Eagle Net number.
I, kind of, suspected that Eagle net was only accessible from special phones. I was, just a little, surprised that he would need to explain that to an operator.

Re: Eagle Phone
Ok, so a person in a car with a mobile phone could not call a eagle net number at a cop shop.
Yes that would be correct, most (but not all) of the eagle net extn numbers are not indialable (i.e. you can not call them directly from any phone on the public network).
