Have a look for the freqs for each channel.

I m guessing without upgrading the firmware, you might be able to use channel 10 on say the 40ch unit which could be the same frequency as channel 30 on the 80ch radio?

Just as an example - until u find a matching frequency! Best finding the freq chart for each radio

if you have an old 40 and a new 80 then channels 1 - 40 are the same for both

. . I have several of the above radios and they are the old 40ch. I have 2 new ones and they are 80ch. Is there a way to make the two talk basically? I cant seem to find any information on upgrading the older ones to 80chs or putting the 40chs back into the new ones. I use these radios as rentals to security companies and they work great especially in nightclubs.

The 40 Channel units are 25 kHz bandwidth, so will sound 'louder' when heard on the 80 Channel models, and because the 80 Channel units are 12.5 kHz bandwidth, they will sound 'softer' when heard on the 40 Channel models. Other than that, you shouldn't have any problems.

As brisbanescan stated, the Channel Numbers are the same for both the 40 and 80 Channel models. The attached PDF shows how the original 40 Channels, and the additional 40 Channels (new Channels 41 to 80) fit into the 'scheme of things'.
