Thank you all very much for your input. Sorry I didn't read the forum, I'm new to it all and just jumped straight in. I want to let you know that I did a search for my area on the ACMA website and found three antennas associated with the local fire brigade. The frequencies were 161.125, 161.05 and 161.025. I'm not sure if any of you guys can tell, but which frequency would most likely belong to a pager sender/receiver antenna? (If any of them actually are pager antennas) If it helps the comms room consists of the pager data unit, two CFA radios and a UHF radio.

Sorry for all the questions, thanks once again. Very much!

The above frequencies appear to be Voice frequencies.

Paging frequencies for the Emergency Services are usually in the range 148.0125 to 149.2375 MHz.

Thanks, The 161 MHz frequencies appear to be district 20's Fireground channels. I'll keep an eye on the 148-149 MHz frequencies.

Nothing comes up on the ACMA
Cheers, Mitch

The page would come into the station and then out to the pagers wouldn't it?

Possibly, but as it would be receiving, you wont necessarily see that station listed on the ACMAs website

Just need to make sure your selecting the correct input device in pdw, and you should see the level indicator move. Check the volume levels of the input and the scanner and you should start receiving messages

My soundcard has crapped itself. I't cant be identified by anything on the computer. I did have it going beforehand though. It is in the PCD 1 slot on the motherboard and I had my AUX plugged into the 'LINE' socket on the soundcard. :? :(

Put the audio cable into your scanner then connect the other end to mic or line in on your motherboard, Then select that in pdw

I just turned the squelch on my scanner down to 0. There is only static coming through, but the signal indicator is bouncing up and down between 0 and 20%. I'd say it is a step forward, but I'm still not there yet

Ok
Without the lead plugged into the scanner, can you hear anything else (tones etc)?
Do you have the correct things selected in the menu, for the program to decode?

Sounds like you need to look at the audio input and levels.....
As suggested earlier, I would be fitting a disc tap if you are serious about decoding pagers

I can hear the tones coming through without the AUX lead plugged in, but the signal meter just flickers. I don't know a great deal about the audio levels and where they are supposed to be. I might just have to play around a bit. I'm terribly serious. I just want to decode the CFA pager messages in my area, but in two years I'll be in the CFA anyway

Thanks again

Mitch

Put the audio level to 100 percent in your computer for the input then adjust on the scanner start at 10 maybe see if the level indicator moves more

It is still flickering continuously between 0 and 20%. A pager tone just come through and the signal bar on my scanner was 5 out of 5 and the PDW signal indicator dropped straight to 0. After the tone stopped it began to flicker again

Something new has happened. A little yellow warning triangle has appeared to the left of the meter and underneath it now has 16.4% instead of RX-Q

Leave it and give it time, The more it decodes and listens, it will eventually go up to 100 percent. Or look at getting a usb dongle to decode pager messages and lots of other uses for it and only cost 25 bucks!
