200 and 400 callsigns??

Post by SteveNSWP »

Whats the difference between 200 and 400 callsigns?? I noticed Surfers and Brisbane use 200 and outer areas use 400's. Why don't they all just use either the 200 or 400???

Hello,

I'm confused by this too from listening to the live feeds (I am a kiwi!) - a lot of the 200 callsigns now appear to be 400. Also which callsigns are supervisors - there are obvious DDO callsigns but the rest are just all 200 or 400 - don't you have sergeants over there?

Cheers guys.

Here in NSW we have assigned vehicles. Cars are marked and assigned numbers that correspond to duty type, ie general duties are 34-44, supervisors are 12-14, Duty Officers are 10-11, hwp 200-249 ect. I think in QLD the supervisor is any callsign that ends in a 0. For example 410 would be the supervisor for which ever station, then 420 would be the supervisor for the next station, and it works I think if they are usuing the 200 series callsigns, I just have no idea why some area's use 400 and other area's use 200??

I have head 600 used for DDO, but this is in the Logan District eg 654

My understanding is that 200-300 etc are general duty cars however are allocated to each station e.g 200-209 Beaudesert cars 210-213 Jimboomba cars

There are a few exampled for the districts bellow:

There are subtle differences between each district but the following is a general guide:

If the callsign has a letter, this denotes which district the unit belongs to eg Lima for Logan Dist.

The first number of a call sign will tell you what type of crew/vehicle they are... EG, 1XX are DDOs and other commissioned officers, 2XX are non-taskable station sedans, 3XX are taskable vans/caged hiluxs, 4XX are taskable sedans, 5XX Plain Clothes/Detective Units.

The second number is the station and the third number differentiates between crews from each station.

Call Signs
100 Commissioned Officers (Inspector Upwards)
200 Station Sedans
300 Panel Vans, Prison Vans, Buses,
400 Dog Squad, District Patrol Vehicles
500 Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB)
600 Technical, Water Police, Radio Techs
700 Task Force(s), TRG, Bomb Squad
800 Foot Patrols “Beats”
900 Traffic Branch, Highway Patrol, “Q” Cars*
Heard On Air As “[Station Name] 100” or “[Department Name] 400”

This list is basically correct, however, it is subject to vary slightly to suite operations in different areas and at different times. In smaller areas, for instance, with only one police station or one main station and a number of "satellite" stations, 200 call signs are the norm.

Sorry, so what's the difference between a yaskable and on-taskable vehicle/callsign? I have just noticed General Duties at Surfers use 230, 231, 232 ect as their GD's callsigns, however redcliffe use 410, 411, 412 ect as GD's callsigns. How come they differ district to district and why is their a different betwen station sedans and district patrol vehicles, wouldn't they be all the same??

Cheers guys for the replies!!

200 call sign are general duties cars assigned to a particular station. 400 call signs are general duties cars assigned to a division in which there may be several stations. The northern division of the Sunshine Coast has about 6 stations in it. In an emergency, all this can go out the window. The main thing for you is that the call sign denotes the type of vehicle and its use. 200 and 400 call signs are general duties officers. 300 are transport, 500 CIB, 900 traffic branch.

You seem to be a bit confused about the terminology.

The Queensland Police have broken the State into Regions, and each Region is broken into Districts, and then each District into Divisions.

With the exception of Metro North Region, a Division is a Single Station (not counting Beat Offices or Shopfronts).

Taskable callsigns are given jobs by Comms, Non-taskable callsigns aren't.

The non-taskables can be working on inquiries or operations and therefore aren't available for routine jobs.

Having said that... There's no reason why they won't play if an any unit call is made for a code 2 to an interesting job...

The difference between logan using 400s for GDs and Goldy Using 200s? - Well they're managed out of different comms centres which probably have different policies for numbering callsigns.

Vkfour is correct

the Logan District is run out of PCC Beenliegh, and the Coomera and Gold Coast is run out of PCC Broadbeach. although i heard that PCC Broadbeach was closing down and going to Logan area. Logan, Coomera and Gold Coast Districts make up the South East Queensland Region for the QPS

Logan and Gold Coast (which includes Coomera and Gold Coast districts) have recently started operating the same callsign system. As Brisbanescan pointed out there was a rumour was that one day it would be all done in one comms centre. Maybe this is the reason, but until then they are all adjoining districts anyway.

As others have said, basically the 200 and 400 callsigns have "swapped", 200's being untaskable and 400 GD etc.

The last number in the callsigns appear to be being used as -
0-4 GD Units (eg 400-404)
5 - Sergeant in the crew (eg 405)
6-9 Traffic shifts / extra patrols etc (eg 406-409)

For both Logan and GC -
699 DDO
698 DDO Surfers Area
650-655 Dog units
710 - Forensic Crash Unit
750-755 - TCS
900-915- Traffic Units
920-924 - Traffic Motorcycles

hi all i just posted this somewhere else but i will post again for your info above
hi all ok any gen vehicle with a 5 at the end has a snr person in the car ie Sargent example L405 beenleigh with a sergent on board 401 is a gen crew no rank
760 crew are tcs floating around giving crews a hand
any vehicle with 3 in front ie 390 is a wagon not a sedan could also be a iload take as a van crew
Surfers has extra crews thus giving 200 callsigns very rare
chopper is also pol air 45
Sufers also has a dedicated van cant remember what call sign it runs all night back and forth from watch house
hope this helps
