Hi im Rod and NEED trunking help

Been Scanning since its its inception here in Qld. Had many great years.
BUT now I've bought a digital DSE96 HH I can regular scanning just fine but trunking is well beyond me.

Looking through this great forum i found freqs and sys ids. thats ok but the 96 wont let me enter any more than 2 digits under ID.
Or I may be reading it wrong, going step by step but using freqs from the forum doesnt work.

Also, on monday im picking up my new uniden 996T.

Would I be better trying the uniden until I can nut out whats going on?

My first scanner was a 10 ch bearcat [can't recall the model] then onto AOR 1000 then to the ubc72Xlt.
Now the 96 and the uniden will take pride of place.

Cheers Rod

Welcome to the forums Rod ! :)

For trunking I think you will find the 996T would be a bit easier than the DSE branded one, alot of the guys here got cheap 996t's when DSE phased them out so im sure they will be able to help you with setting up trunking. Where abouts in Queensland are you located ?

TY Phil,email sent.

Now ive been playing further and need more advice.

Ive copied the post by Doogs and used his ipswich freq 868.0125 and ID 54784 ,but now its asking for offset, the default is 380.

Cant wait till monday when the uniden arrives by courier LOL.

Cheers Rod :D

And the Offset to use is 380.

The Base Frequency is 865.0125 MHz, and the Step is 25 kHz.

And 868.0125 MHz is on Mt Coot-tha.

I would strongly recommend that you operate the scanner in Open Mode, initially. If you program in Talk Group IDs (TGIDs - eg. ID 54784) the scanner will only open the Squelch if the incoming signal matches the programmed ID.

TY Comnit,
Its starting to fall into place.
Is the OFFSET [380] a freq such as 600Khz for repeater offsets? or is it a another method?

Ive got it on open mode now,so it shoulkd receive all transmissions.

forgive my stupidity but in open mode will it display sys id's so i can start a collection?

Cheers Rod

YES and NO. 380 is actually a Channel Number, which of course equates to a frequency.
Motorola numbers both the Tx Frequency, and the Rx Frequency. The Rpt Tx Frequencies are numbered from 380 to 759, while the corresponding Rpt Rx Frequencies are numbered from 0 to 379.

Yes.

Don't really know, as I don't own a DTS-96, or a PRO-96.

I assume you mean Talk Group IDs (TGIDs), as each System only has one SysID, and there are only three 800 MHz Motorola Smartnet Systems in the Brisbane area, and I doubt you would receive any of the others at Ipswich.

couldn't agree more with you on that one the only other Trunking i know of out ipswich way is MPT1327 which requires a computer, this is placed elsewhere and would be good to see if the Pro 96 AKA the DSE96 can be utilised with trunkview

The PRO-96 / DTS-96 is manufactured by GRE, and there aren't any GRE scanners shown on the TrunkView Site, as being supported by the program. The scanners need to be capable of PC Control, and apparently GRE scanners, at least the early models, lack this facility.

To do Trunking using the "Base Frequency - Offset - Step procedure", I believe you need to program in all the frequencies for the Site.

The frequencies are as follows:-

867.0125, 868.0125, 869.0125
865.5125, 866.5125
865.2625

Just spent an enjoyable afternoon reading the forum and learning as i go.

Theres certainly much for me to learn.

Just using the search function to run through the trunked sections.

The ID number happens too quick LOL but ill pause it next time and start a collection...
