Victoria Police Antennas
Anybody knows what antennas VicPol use?
A snap from Highway Patrol might reveal something.
Would the attached picture be one of the following antennas from RFI? (might be a bit hard to see the antenna, but the red box is around it)

Re: Victoria Police Antennas
I would have thought the antenna off the back of the car would have been their comms and the antenna with the red box a mobile phone antenna.

Re: Victoria Police Antennas
Wouldn't it be the opposite due to the size issue? Mobile phone antennas are about the size of the big one on the back aren't they?

Nah mate, you find alot of the unmarked car's have glass mount antenna's which do UHF aswell but that one definatly looks like a mobile phone antenna.

Re: Victoria Police Antennas
Yeah this is correct. The small window mounts are their main UHF radio, mostly used on unmarked vehicles. Marked cars have them too, but most have a normal UHF antenna mounted in the centre of the lightbar.rochedalescan wrote:Nah mate, you find alot of the unmarked car's have glass mount antenna's which do UHF aswell but that one definatly looks like a mobile phone antenna.
The bigger antenna could be a UHF CB or another radio used in the area.

Re: Victoria Police Antennas
You are all wrong!!
The one on the Window is for there MMR Radio netowork, there will be on on the otherside for there MDT Radio.
The bigger antenna is for the SMR Radio - VHF all HWP cars, canine cars and any other specialst units carry these radios.
Cheers!

Re: Victoria Police Antennas
Jamer,
just a note there that the Antenna on that vehicle can be used by both the MMR and there UHF Digital network i have run digital through my AP354 on several occasions. also note that when this thread was started the Victorian MMR was still in the early stages. as for the VHF Whip again the radio depending on the Manufacturer could be a Multi Mode Radio such as a Simoco SRM9000's Series Radio, which does TMR (Trunked), PMR (Conventional) and P25

Re: Victoria Police Antennas
Nah MMR was introduced to VicPol in 2006, plenty of time bris
Also, the claim that MMR and other data goes through the one antenna is correct I believe. I saw an unmarked the other night and it only had this one antenna on it's back window, no others.

Re: Victoria Police Antennas
Both UHF and VHF are RFI. The UHF is an AP454 and the VHF a CD28.

Re: Victoria Police Antennas
both of which are good antenna's iv had my CD28 on my car for and on the roof of my house for a couple of years, still no surface rust. as for the AP454 they are limited but work well
