I would like to hear from anyone here who owns and uses an active listening antenna?

How good are they, what brand and where did you buy would be of interest.

I built one of these kits http://www.ramseyelectronics.com/downlo ... ls/AA7.pdf
It works well as a general purpose pre-amplifier. I don't use it as an active antenna though.
In it's intended use, it performs quite well on VHF and UHF - forget HF indoors though. With computers, plasma/lcd tv's, and other gadgets running in the house, the noise level on HF is overwhelming.

Hi i have used a lot of different active antennas from Mfj/Rf Sytems/Winradio these are current ones below.

LF ENGINEERING-H800 SKYMATCH ACTIVE 10KHZ-50MHZ:
This antenna does a good job monitoring hf signals small in size 26 inch long 1 inch diameter must be away from electrical interference otherwise u will get a lot of noise on hf i got it mounted on the roof but will e moving it to a better location bought the antenna from Grove in america.

PALSTAR-AA30 ACTIVE PORTABLE 300KHZ-30MHZ:
This antenna runs on a 9 volt battery does a decent job with its own aerial u can also run a long wire antenna comes in handy when u are hf portable bought it from Tts Systems Victoria.

WELLBROOK-ALA1530 ACTIVE LOOP 40KHZ-30MHZ:
This active loop does an excellent job across all hf bands must be at least 5 metres from house so it can null out electrical interference i got it mounted on the alfresco room around 4 metres high and around the same distance from the comms room had it mounted 12 metres high but was to close to other antennas & around 1200 metres of electrical wire and wasnt performing good at all will be picking up a rotator shortly end it should improve reception planning to mounted higher where its located ordered from The Shortwave Shop UK & they will put the order for u to wellbrook.

Regards Lino.
