Try Olbis Communications at 1717 Ipswich Road, Rocklea. They are Icom distributors.

Or Prime Electronics (aka St Lucia Electronics) in Bowen Hills. They have a nice selection of coax connectors and adapters.

If it is the same physical size as a BNC, but screws on, it is possibly a TNC. Take your hand held with you, to ensure you get the correct item.

???

Ok had a bit of a look it appears to be what is called a bnc-j connecter. I didn't have much luck finding you anything apart from at Andrews for $39.

Yes well, that is NOT a TNC connector. And it is unlikely that you will easily get any type of connector to fit it, as there is no connection for the braid.

After a quick look on Google, the correct adapter is an Icom AD-98FSC
and Andrews Communications have them for $39.00

Also, it is only intended to be used on the workbench, to connect test
equipment to the radio during maintenance.

I didn't see anything in the Icom manual about the workbench bit.

Looking at the pictures you posted the thread appears to be on the center pin?
Looking at the picture Comint has there it would appear to me to be thread on the center pin, you only just see the start of it.

It does have the thread, it just doesn't extend all the way to the end. This is so the adapter is aligned correctly before the thread takes effect. A 'crossed-thread' will destroy the expensive adapter very quickly. And the adapter has to be screwed all the way on, otherwise the shell does make proper contact with the radio case, and you have poor, or no connection with the coax braid.

Here's a better view of the adapter, taken from an Icom_F3 brochure. It seems they have improved the shell a bit.

(For maintenance use only) Manufacturer speak for 'not guaranteed for long-term use', so if you blow up your transmitter output stage, while using one of these adapters in a semi-permanent installation, such as with an external antenna, you are not covered by warranty.

What's in a manual, and what should be in a manual, aren't always the same thing.

The adapter is for use with about 30 to 40 different Icom models, most of them F series aimed at the American Military, or heavy industry, so they are probably more concerned about legal action from those sources, than from 'hobby users".
