i do apologise Paul for the giving incorrect location of comms centres as i do not live and have no interest in GC information. i had the information given to me by the Manager of QAS at AFCOM and was told that the centre in GC was moving around 2010. however enough said.

I have a feeling Queensland Police Communications Centre Gold Coast is relocating to Southport I read something in the police budget about that...there is also going to be a police contact centre built at Boondall which will take
pressure off local police communications centres.

Did you mean Queensland Ambulance Comms in which case they're already at Southport

I don't know where the powers that be get the idea that police, fire and ambulance comms should be centralised in near proximity or even worse, one building. I'm told this is happening in NSW. Why do we have to follow them? These nameless 'planners' have not given much thought to risk factors like natural disasters, acts of civil unrest, and dare we say terrorism :?

The infrastructure for emergency services communications are put at risk because of the politics of economics which says to me they are putting all their eggs into one basket.

Just my 2c

Kedron Park is a great example of that

Kedron park is a good idea...they put a lot of planning into that and since the QFRS and QAS are both in the DES and EMQ I think :| They should make more communications centres like that. Plus the upside is the communications centre will hopefully gain some public attention which therefore increases peoples interest and might promote it.

Also no I was refering to Broadbeach police communications moving to Southport because Southport has actually just had renovations completed.

Also regarding communications centres joining up there's good and bad's the only bad I can think of at the moment is that the local knowledge will totally go. So long as they keep them regional and make no big state communication centres they should be fine.
