Sounds like an audio setting problem.
Discriminator tap?

Nah, I don't have a discriminator tap. Thanks for all of your help guys, but I think I'll just get an SDR dongle like a few of the other blokes said. I'll keep trying. Thank you all for your help. I appreciate it greatly.

Hi All,

Just wondering if I can get some help with this.

I've got my SDRSharp and PDW working great for the Orange? (148.6375) frequency, and I'm able to decode 100% of the messages, so I know my setup is working fine.

However, when I try and change to the EAS frequency (148.9125, changing no other settings other than the frequency), PDW no longer recognises the decoding... I'm in Vic and looking for CFA/SES pager messages.

My tone sounds pretty much the same when scanning the 148.6375 frequency, except the bursts seem to be longer...

Is anyone able to help at all? I've attached my screenshot of the SDRSharp screen.

Hey Justin it all looks well. Does the needle move In Pdw at all?

Hey mate,

The needle in PDW flickers slowly from the left to like the next little step on the left when there is no signal coming through on SDRSharp, however when there is one of the bursts, it flickers faster, but never past the first step in the gauge if that makes sense?

I just wanted to confirm that 148.9125 is in fact the EAS pager frequency?

Cheers,
Justin

148.9125 is EAS

Thanks for confirming that... Will continue to have a play around.

Changing the Sample Rate in my RTL configuration in SDR sharp from 2.4 to lower or higher rates had no effect on the .6375 frequency, but didn't get anything come through the .9175 freq either.

One thing I did notice, is that the signals appear different in SDR Sharp... Again, changing only frequencies and no other setting, the image below is a comparison of the 2... I noticed that the EAS frequency is slightly less intense? I'm still very new to this (i.e. 2-3 days), so I'm not sure what this waterfall represents, but the signals look different, which could be why PDW can't decode it...

Is there some other setting I can try perhaps to get the EAS signal to match that of the .6375 image?

Image

As a side note, I've also notices that 148.6875 is quite active, but again, can't get any messages to decode on that frequency either...

Cheers,
Justin

Baud rate for EAS 148.9125MHz is 512
Baud rate for orange 148.6375 is 1200
Make sure you tick these boxes on PDW and uncheck 2400 & Flex

Thanks xtl-kindaguy,

OK cool, that would make sense why it looks more "intense".

I'm just wondering, are all the signals that would come through on 148.9125 EAS pager messages, or would these signals also include other types of transmissions?

I've managed to get what looks like a couple of "test" pages sent from units/brigades, which have been sent out, however not all transmissions are picked up by PDW?

He already has the correct stuff checked and unchecking the rest wouldn't make a difference. So are you saying that it's decoding neither of the 2 frequencys now?

Hey Chainz,

No, it's still decoding the 148.6375 (orange) freq at 100% in PDW...

However the 148.9125 (EAS) frequency still isn't working in PDW. I think I've managed to get a couple test/admin pages through the 148.9125 frequency, but that's it. All of the signals detected in SDRSharp aren't picked up by PDW at all.

With the EAS frequency try starting on that and then click start. Make sure the volume is up full in SDRSharp and on the vb cable in the audio system properties

Also double check your sound settings in SDRSharp. I noticed yours is set to Speakers for VB cable output. I just decoded the EAS then 100 percent I have my output as Cable input for VB cable

Just 1 more thing, I think you are trying to use the wrong frequency thats why It's not decoding. I'm decoding orange on 148.6875 and EAS on 148.9125
