Hi
Thanks for the welcome .
I'm very new to all this so sorry for any future basic questions.
Do I need to set my location on my 436?
As my unit only has USA or Canada as country options, I've tried manually setting gps but keep getting out of range message
Appreciate any help

Re: Uniden 436pt location
Hi,
You don't need to set this and I don't believe that this even works here. It is a feature where sites are setup with a range and the radio will enabled / disable those sites, base on your location. it is a Radio reference thing.

Re: Uniden 436pt location
The "location" or GPS function in the Uniden scanners that support it certainly does work here, it's GPS how could it not?
The downside is that it requires considerable setup, plus the necessary hardware such as the GPS antenna and cabling. Further it is more than just simply adding your long and lat. Every site etc must have the co-ords and range entered.
Unless you have the hardware and the time to enter the data, forget about it.
In the Sentinel software and the scanner, the US and Canadian databases are ignored here. We, as in Australia do not have the Radio Reference resources that those databases draw on. Any Australian data on RR is crap to say the least, it should be avoided.
I would take my time, learn how radios systems and bands are structures here then develop my own profile for the scanner. Use forums like this to gather information, but generally be cautious about what you post, big brother is watching.
