Does GPS work on UBCD 4/536?

Post by veekaytwo »

Hi all, I can't get my GPS to work during scan. I turn location to 'on' in one of my favourites, set range to 20, lat and lon in all of my sites. 'When I scan it scans nicely but nothing is detected. However if I push 'hold' on a channel it works and I can hear people talk.
I'm thinking it is a bug in these radios. All Uniden's efforts go into the radio reference database and making money out of that, but here in Australia if we manually put in the lat and lon and everything else it doesn't work.
I was thinking it may be the radio doesn't understand there is a Southern hemisphere? It doesn't tolerate 'S' and 'E' in the lat lon but does tolerate the - character at the start. I have attached a typical screen shot at the end of this. I would be grateful if anyone has experimented with GPS.

There is no bug in the radio. It only responds to the enter data. You are right it doesn't know there is a Southern Hemisphere, or a Northern for that matter. If the data you have entered is not correct or you have failed to setup the unit/software correctly the unit cannot do as intended. It has absolutely nothing to do with Radioreference or any other online source and Uniden does not make money from RR, it in fact costs them money.

Remember GIGO.
