Summary of this article: We discuss the apparent closure of The Whistler Group, a manufacturer of scanners and other mobile electronics. Evidence for the closure includes the unavailability of the company's website, unanswered phone calls and emails, and reports from resellers and social media. The article details the company's history, its recent struggles and the impact on customers who may have sent in equipment for repair or who need firmware updates.
Has The Whistler Group gone out of business? After extensive research, it appears to be true.
Arkansas-based Whistler has been in the scanner business for 10 years, but the roots of this business go back to its founding in 1971. Here’s what we know and why it appears this manufacturer has quietly and quickly closed up shop. This is significant because until now, Whistler and Uniden were the only two manufacturers of scanners marketed in the United States, as well as other areas of the world.
This was the showcase of Whistler’s line of scanners, the TRX-2, a mobile/base version of the Whistler TRX-1 handheld scanner. Whistler apparently has gone out of business, leaving Uniden as the only manufacturer of scanner radios in the United States and other areas of the world.

Re: Whistler Group - Apparently out of business
While competition is a good thing in any market, Whistler failed to read the market. It was planning on releasing a TRX100 and 200 (portable and mobile) as their next generation of scanners.
Unfortunately two things happened that stop this project dead in its tracks. The first was Uniden released the SDS100. The second, Whistler decided to use the form factor of the TRX 1 and TRX 2, simply adding Bluetooth and a number of small updates to the proposed new products. This did not sit well with the US market.
The Uniden SDS series while not perfect stole the thunder from Whistler and they cancelled the TRX100/200 project. While it was anticipated that the new scanners would be able to handle the dreaded Simulcast, it was the Uniden that proved it could.
Unfortunately Whistler simply did not have the funds or resources to compete with its nearest rival and lost the race.
One thing to consider, Whistler products will more than likely appreciate in value now!
